A Wedding at The Dutch Connection Harbor East

Customers have long been saying that The Dutch Connection shop in Harbor East would be an ideal setting for small weddings and events. So this month, we began to offer the shop as a venue and have the first wedding scheduled for November! With the opening of The Black Tulip espresso cafe and the existing charm of the floral shop, it's a memorable and intimate space for an event. We also have access to the rooftop deck of the historic Bagby Building, where the newlyweds will be having photos taken with the Inner Harbor skyline as the backdrop. We'll post more of the wedding details as we plan them!

Allium Kronkel

The long, green, curly stems are Allium Kronkel (Kronkel is Dutch for curly). Allium is in the onion genus, and though it smells bad when you cut it...it looks looks so lovely in all types of containers!

Oranjekgekte is Dutch for ‘Orange Craze,’ which is exactly what we have here at The Dutch Connection! We are so excited the Netherlands is in the World Cup Finals and are showing our support by making orange bouquets in the shops. So, stop by and pick up yours to cheer on the Dutch footballers!

Oranje (orange) is the Netherlands’ national color. The royal family—The House of Oranje-Nassau—and the country became associated with the color even though the flag is red, white, and blue. Flags are often hung with an additional orange pennant symbolizing the reigning royal house.

For the first time, European floral designer and owner of The Dutch Connection—Paula Dobbe-Maher—is sharing her expertise and training with you.

We are now taking reservations for our in-shop floral design demonstrations. Observe the exquisite Dutch technique, learn to arrange fresh flowers for your home, sip wine, and enjoy an evening amongst friends. You can also book a private demonstration for birthdays, showers, or other special events.

Attendees will take home a Dutch Connection beginner design kit—including fresh flowers, vase, and instruction leaflet—to create your very own magnificent arrangement! You will also receive a 20% savings on your next bunch of fresh-cut flowers and special savings on the evening of the demonstration.

The price is $130, demos will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00, exact dates are dependent upon the number of reservations. Call or email to reserve a spot for you and your friends at one of our shops today.

We make fresh mini bouquets daily. They sit perfectly in a small votive holder with a little water. One customer says they're her favorite, "I take them with me to any room I go, so I always have lovely flowers sitting next to me." Isn't that nice!

Please meet The Dutch Connection, a european-style floral shop and boutique with two retail locations in Baltimore. Hand-tied bouquets are our specialty, using seasonal imports from Holland as well as locally grown flowers. In our shops, we carry an exclusive line of pottery, glassware, gifts, and plants for indoors and out. On our blog, we'll be sharing our day-to-day happenings in the business, so check back often and thanks for reading!

For our first post, we'd like to introduce the Mikado plant (shown above). Mikado (Syngonanthus chrysanthus) is a swamp plant native to Brazil, which was discovered approximately 20 years ago. A swamp is not exactly the origin you'd think of when you see this simple, elegant plant. Mikado likes bright, indirect light and needs water regularly (that's where the swamp part comes in). If you'd like to give a Mikado plant as a gift—or get one for yourself—visit either of our shops!
